5 Blogs You Should Read If You Want To Make Money Online

Jun 6th, 07 | 10 remarks

So you want to make money online, and more specifically, with your blog. I’m by no means a marketing professional, advertising expert, or even a money-making guru - but I have some tips for you nonetheless. Why should you pay attention to anything that follows after a statement like that? Because I have a list of resources you should pay attention to…

  1. If you’re serious about creating a steady income with your site, your first stop should be DoshDosh. Read every one of Maki’s entries listed under Popular Posts. Then read them again. Let the info sink in. He has some terrific strategies for generating traffic, ad placements, and affiliate marketing.
  2. When you’re done absorbing the vast amount of material there, head over to Daily Blog Tips. Daniel’s blog is still in it’s infancy by some standards, but his excellent content is both fun to read and informative. He also does case studies, prominent blogger interviews, and of course, he offers some very useful tips on all the logistics of blogging.
  3. Next I recommend Neil Patel’s Link Building Blog. If you haven’t heard of Neil, you must live under a rock. Come out from under there and spend some time reading through his blog. :) He writes about link building strategy (obviously), social media leveraging, and syndicating.
  4. John Chow is another well-known blogger, and has proven beyond doubt that making money with a blog is not only do-able, but can be very lucrative. He writes about paid posting, investing and a variety of how-to ideas for generating revenue online.
  5. Finally I suggest ProBlogger. I know this is probably a given, but just in case you haven’t discovered it yet, now you’ll be in the know. Darren Rowse has established himself as a leading expert in the professional blogging industry. His site is an excellent resource for new and seasoned bloggers, money-making ideas, affiliate program news and more.

I blog regardless of whether I make a dime or not - I blog because I love it. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to try and earn a living from it though! All of the above sites are chock full of solid, credible information from people who are walking the walk and not just talking the talk. If your ambition is to make money with your blog, whether it’s just to add another income stream, or to make your entire living… you may want to give these resources a look.

  1. Aaron :: miLienzo.com

Nice list. All good blogs which I read from time to time, except a certain Mr Chow’s. I find him a tad arrogant to say the least and don’t really like people who make money from telling other people how easy it is to make money. Cos it’s never easy, and I’m sure it lures some people into a false reality.

PS - your Link Building Blog link is broken.

  2. Daniel

Flattered by the mention, let alone by the words.

Discovered your blog a couple of days ago, definitely going to enter my reading list.

  3. Maki

    Hi Charity,

Thanks for the mention! Link Building Blog is useful occasionally but it’s not updated regularly. I would suggest reading Neil’s Quick Sprout or Pronet Advertising blog instead.

BTW.. I love your site design. :)

  4. David

I have been following John and ProBlogger for a while, but the others are new to me.

Another blog I have been following on this subject that I like, is Courtney Tuttle. I have found his blog to be very reasonable and direct.

  5. Charity

Aaron - I can see your point. I think it would be difficult to achieve the level of income Chow has, simply because th niche does tend to be saturated. Browsing through it I sometimes feel more discouraged than assisted. On the other hand, he’s cashing bigger checks than I may ever see! ;) Oh and thanks for bringing the broken link to my attention.

    Daniel & Maki - thanks I appreciate it! :)

Maki - sorry, your post got hung up in Akismet for some reason. I like the Pronet blog as well. Somehow I missed Quick Sprout but I’ll be checking it out now. Thanks for the tip.

  6. Charity

Hi David - thanks for the addition. I have not heard of Courtney but I’ll check that out too!

  7. The Monetizer

Great list of blogs here. I read Problogger, Chow and Dosh regularly and will check into the 2 others you added which I wasn’t familiar with. Thanks for the information.

  8. Prestamos

Great list, I love problogger and John Chow and sometimes CopyBlogger.

    Thanks for the list

  9. Charity

I read CopyBlogger occasionally. It’s an excellent resource for learning to write better, but I find a lot of it repetitive. There’s only so much that can be said about writing better headlines, isn’t there? < shrugs >

Not to say mine don’t need some work. ;)

  10. Préstamos

John Chow and ProBlogger are the best by far. I didn’t know some of the others to be honest.
