Branded Redesign - Mission Complete

Nov 1st, 07 | 5 remarks

This morning I launched the redesign, complete with the new logo, which I’ve been eagerly anticipating since September. I held off because I wanted to participate in the Pink for October initiative, but here it is November 1st already. Introducing Four, and I’m here to tell ya - it’s here to stay.

My regular readers know I have a tendency to redesign just a little too often. If you’re new, you may not know this is the fourth redesign in 8 months. Hence the name of the theme. I’m just never satisfied with my own site for very long, but a good friend pointed out to me yesterday that I have no problem recognizing when a client project is complete, and being satisfied with that. I was then instructed to quit scrutinizing the little things that no one else would notice and just launch the sucker. So Gretchen - you win. ;)

Besides, I have too many projects on my plate right now, and it doesn’t look like things will be letting up any time soon. I knew I couldn’t spend an more time on this redesign if I’m going to get Cornerstone out as scheduled. Update: It’s now live! (11/20/07)

I’ve already noted a few things that need to be adjusted, which I’ll work on as time allows, but please let me know if you spot any bugs or alignment issues. (I haven’t had time to do any thorough testing yet.) Also depending on which browser you’re using, the spacing of some elements may look a little weird (like the “best of” section). But IE sucks *cough*, so what’s a designer to do?

p.s. I’m also happy to announce I’ve finally achieved a PageRank! Whew, only took 8 months! I missed the boat on the last update, but came out strong with a 5 this time, and I’m pleased to see my efforts are finally paying off. While I don’t subscribe to the line of thinking that Google means everything, it sure does help in the overall scheme of things - and it’s about time!

Looks great Charity!! Looking forward to seeing your Cornerstone theme as well!

  2. Nathan Rice

    Charity … stunning.

What’s so surprising is that your design abilities match your ability to write fantastic code.

    I’m amazed … and jealous :-)

  3. Charity

@Randa - the good news - after 3 long days I’m almost done with all the stuff associated with switching platforms, but the bad news - I haven’t had time to work on Cornerstone (or much else)! I’m starting to get very nervous about my deadline. In the meantime the world keeps spinning and I’m trying trying to keep up.

@Nathan - thank you so much for the confidence boost! I’m quite certain you have nothing to be jealous of though. ;)

  4. Paul Enderson

I’m a bit late noticing this, as I’ve been reading everything through Netvibes recently! It’s very nice though - subtly tweaked, with some nice little touches (like the comments boxes). Well done! :)

Congrats on the PR5 - I got the same! I guess we must’ve both missed the last updated together… ;)

  5. Charity

Thanks Paul, and ditto! I don’t place a huge amount of emphasis on PR, but I have to admit it was bugging me for months that I didn’t have ANY. Then when rumors filtered through the net about updates, and I still didn’t have any I started wondering what I was doing wrong. More than anything this came as a relief that I must’ve done something right. :D

One of the most frustrating things for me since I started writing on this blog was the lack of a logo I really loved. That's not to say I haven't tried. But logo design, to me, is kind of a thing all it's own and I'm just not very good ... [ » ]
