Bring Dead Posts To Life

Want to breathe new life into old posts that didn’t receive the attention you think they deserved?

I just came across the Tumbleweed plugin, and it seems like a good idea so I wanted to give it a mention. Basically, it finds old, uncommented posts buried in your Archive, dusts them off, slaps a shiny new coat of paint on them, and features them where your viewers are sure to notice.

Okay, so it doesn’t do any dusting or painting but still!

A plugin of this sort gives your unrecognized posts a second chance at proving their worth. This is particularly useful if you’ve got a fairly new blog, and didn’t have any readership starting out. Many of your opening entries may have been overlooked as your traffic improved.

The author also has a plugin called 5 posts you might’ve missed, which opted for instead of Tumbleweed. If you’re looking for ways to sticky up your blog, these plugins could be beneficial.

Update: (9/21/07) Just switched over to a plugin called Customizable Post Listings, which offers a little more functionality in the way posts are displayed, such as recent posts, recently commented, recently modified, and my favorite - random posts.

I have been using tumbleweed for a couple of weeks now and its really working for me. I have received a lot of comments on older posts.

Right on. I haven’t tried it out just yet - I was going to wait a few more weeks to build up more “old” posts to feature, but I guess there’s no time like the present. :)

Hey Charity, it does the vacuuming though :D

Thanks for the mention, let me know how you get on with it. :)

[...] Eventually, rotating older content in becomes a challenge. A few months ago I wrote about ways to bring dead posts to life, and 5 ways to sticky up your blog, but adding a tabbed interface is another (very clever) option [...]

One of the most frustrating things for me since I started writing on this blog was the lack of a logo I really loved. That's not to say I haven't tried. But logo design, to me, is kind of a thing all it's own and I'm just not very good ... [ » ]
