Collected Inspiration
Aug 27th, 07 |Many of you may have already heard about the wonderful collection of noteworthy designs which Patrick Haney put together on his Flickr feed. If not, you should definitely check it out. It’s a fabulous source of inspiration and ideas if you ever get designer’s block.
His idea also reminded me of my own scattered collection of screenshots. Like him, I began gathering them long ago… it just never crossed my mind to publish them. Duh! What a great resource to share! Sadly, I lost most of the collection with the demise of my hard drive last year. Those I managed to salvage have now been published on my Flickr feed. ;)
You never know when a designer is going to give their site an overhaul, and if there’s something specific about a design that speaks to you, Flickr is an incredibly easy way to chronicle it before it disappears from live view forever. Another collection you might also find useful is Brian Christiansen’s Design Patterns. In this case, the collection consists of interfaces “unique or interesting” from across the web.
I don’t think we ever really find inspiration. It finds us. So whenever it finds me, I’ll add new screenshots to the collection. Granted, there’s not many shots up yet, but I hope you enjoy it, and let inspiration find you too! Feel free to add notes or comments to any of the screenshots, or give me a shout-out if you want to contribute to the collection.
