Disappearing Tags

Apr 28th, 07 | 1 remark

The Wordpress plugin Ultimate Tag Warrior has been a favorite of mine for quite a while. I love all the things you can do with it, and the functionality it can bring to a site. Today I feel like it’s an ultimate pain in the a** though, and I’m discouraged. For some reason, whenever someone posts a comment, my tags associated with that post are disappearing (and therefore my related posts listing on the sidebar). When the page reloads after a new comment has been entered, the phrase “No related posts” shows up instead.

To get the related posts to show up again, I have to go to that entry in the admin panel, and re-save after adding my tags in again. This is futile, because my very next visitor might want to make a comment, and unknowingly erase the tags I just put back in. Then I’m back to square one. Sounds like great fun for a Saturday eh? ;)

I checked the Wordpress forum, only to be told to download the newest release of UTW. Problem is - I’m already running the latest version. I found a short post on the Neato forum where someone else was experiencing this, but no indication of what could be causing the problem or how to fix it.

So just to be thorough, I installed 3.14xxxxx. Judging by the date, this appears to be the latest version but it’s not real clear. The problem persists. Christine recently mentioned a revamp of her plugin, but I’m left wondering if I should hold out for it, or find a stand-in.

I’d hate to part with UTW. It really is cool. But I just can’t have the sidebar loading with “No related posts” on any entry with a new comment, and causing all you fine people to wonder why I have it there in the first place! Now a quest begins… try to pinpoint the problem. This could be a long process. *sigh* Maybe it can wait until Monday. It’s beautiful today and I want to be outside.

So, if you’re wondering why nothing loads on the single entry pages, that’s it. Oh and if you know of a good alternative to UTW I’d love to hear about it!

Update: Whew, I fixed the problem. Turns out I just had to slow down and have a little patience. Yesterday when I tried overwriting my former UTW plugins folder with the newest version, I guess it just didn’t take. Today I deleted the folder altogether, then re-installed. This time it worked like a charm. Yay! I should’ve known better.
