Freelance like a Rockstar

Dec 14th, 07 | 6 remarks

One of my favorite sites, Freelance Switch, launched their first ebook today called How to be a Rockstar Freelancer. FS has become a definitive online resource for freelancers over the past year since its inception, and that’s not all. They’ve successfully branched into the podcast arena and now into the ebook arena as well.

I’ve been waiting on ‘Rockstar Freelancer’ for a while, so I snatched my copy up right away this morning. :) It covers all the essentials that most current freelancers want to know such as

  • branding
  • marketing
  • managing projects
  • handling tricky clients
  • and of course - pricing yourself and getting paid.

There’s also the obligatory chapter for newbies on getting started. If expanding is part of your vision, you’ll be interested to know there’s even a chapter on that. One of the things that really caught my attention was section on Avoiding Repetitive Strain Injury. I’m in a situation right now where I’m going to bi-weekly Chiropractic sessions, so for me personally that information is very valuable.

I think the only thing missing from this book is a section on developing an exit plan. Most people don’t go into business automatically thinking of how to get out… but it’s important to consider at some point nonetheless.

If you are your boss, or if you’ve been considering firing your boss, you might want to take a look at this ebook. I’ll definitely be tearing into it this weekend. It’s cold and snowy here in Wyoming anyway AND my Christmas shopping is done, so I can’t think of a better way to spend the weekend! :)

Hmmm…I think you have me sold, Charity. I wasn’t really thinking about buying it, but I probably will now.

    Thanks for the insight.

If you get it let me know what you think Armen! It’s a very easy read so far, but I think it’ll be a weekend well spent. I probably should’ve read a book of this subject matter a long time ago. Better late than never I guess. ;)

Thanks for the review. Being a freelancer myself, this is just the sort of thing that interests me.

One of the most frustrating things for me since I started writing on this blog was the lack of a logo I really loved. That's not to say I haven't tried. But logo design, to me, is kind of a thing all it's own and I'm just not very good ... [ » ]
