Hello, tomorrow

I don’t know where I’ve been the past two weeks, but somehow I missed all the news of the recent goings-on over at Apple… including the beta release of Safari for Windows, a beautiful redesign of their site, and more details about the forthcoming OS, Leopard.

Mac OS X Leopard

Hello indeed, and what a perfect choice of words! I’m not really a Mac freak, but I am an initiate, you might say. I’ve been planning (and saving) since January to make the switch after a lifetime on Windows (about 14 years). I’d hoped to have a Mac in my hot little hands already, as the release was tentatively scheduled for this spring… then they pushed it to October. Ho hum.

While I can’t wait to get my first Mac, I’ll admit I was (at least momentarily) more excited about Safari. Testing on a Mac was never a priority for my former employer, but since being on my own it has always bugged me that I couldn’t check my designs. I’m aware of tools like Browsershots, but that’s beside the point. ;) I also just picked up a client who is very much of the Mac persuasion, so Apple’s timing is impeccable.

Safari Windows

Not just that, but this gives me a thread to hold onto (besides iTunes) until October… I’m terrible with delayed gratification. I’m also nervous about the transition, knowing little to nothing about Apple’s OS. Getting to know Safari in advance will help. Oh and if any gurus out there would like to be my guide in getting to know Mac, by all means drop me a line. It should guarantee you a spot in Mac User Heaven! ;)

Update: By the way, you can now pre-order your copy of Leopard via Amazon.com. (0722/07)

I’m sure that it would’t be hard trying to find some sort of “Mac Users Guide” as Apple fans are extremely loyal and savvy.

I’ve considered buying a Mac and still might do so. But IMO the whole “It just works on a Mac” idea doesn’t really hold up for me.

Be sure to post some impression up once you’ve had some hands on as the thought of purchasing a Mac is still in my mind. Plus I shall soon be working for retail outlet that distributes Macs, wich means discounts. ^_^

Sure will Daniel. I have a couple friends who are Mac users, and you’re right - they’re a faithful bunch. I’m curious to see if my transition from PC to Mac will turn me into a cult follower as well. ;) On a sidenote, I found a resource site a few months back which might be of interest to you… I Bought a Mac. Looks promising anyway.

I have one word for you: Quicksilver. Oh, and a few more words: Start using Quicksilver right away. It’s free and almost life-changing. You’ll enjoy the Mac world, I think. Every thing just sort of works.

Thanks Ian, I’ll check it out. I really can’t wait for October. Every time my PC starts bogging down, or I have to do a restart for whatever stupid reason, It’s all I can do to restrain from making a beeline for the nearest Mac store. :)
