Never Open IE Again?
May 8th, 07 | 2 remarksIf you’re a designer or developer who has fallen in love with building/debugging/tweaking your creations using Firefox, you’ll be happy to know that you never again have to open IE to see how your sites render.
Let’s face it, Firefox just makes things easier for designers and coders alike. With add-ons like the Web Developer Toolbar, ColorZilla, Firebug, View Source Chart, MeasureIt, Mouse Gestures, and Tab Mix Plus, redundant tasks become more bearable, workflow is streamlined and production is increased.
But did you know that with the IE Tab extension, you’ll never have to depart from your carefully customized, beloved Firefox interface to test a page in the stoic environment of IE? Why’s that? Because IE Tab hooks into the rendering engine that Microsoft uses for IE (whereas Firefox uses the Gecko layout engine). Therefore, your pages will load in Firefox, but display exactly as if you had loaded them in IE.

Are you one who strives (and hacks) for perfection down to the pixel? You can even set IE Tab preferences to open in a new tab, so you can compare, side by side, the differences in the way your pages render between the two engines. Cool huh? Ok, carry on. :)

Been running this since FF1 - and it’s excellent. The best thing for me was that when I was on XP it used IE6 for the tab, and now I’m on Vista it uses IE7 - all seamlessly!

I’ve slowly been working my way to using FF, however, after reading this, I’m convinced that there is really no reason for me not to make the switch.
