Design Notes - Join the Revolution
Aug 17th, 07 | 7 remarksIf you move in certain circles on the web (namely Wordpress theming), you may have already taken a look at the latest release by Brian Gardner, called Revolution. I wanted to showcase his theme on Notes this week for a couple of reasons. 1.) it’s not only a theme, it’s a development tool, and 2.) it comes on the heels of a recent discussion here on DA and a similar one over at Randa’s blog, regarding a new movement in blog design.
Brian has put together a beautifully simple and flexible theme, heavily geared toward using Wordpress as a CMS. He’s offering Revolution not only as a single-use product, but also as a dev kit for anyone who wants to use it as a framework to design client sites.
Though Revolution doesn’t fit the bill for my original intentions in starting Design Notes (to feature free utilities or services), I couldn’t resist the urge to talk about it this week because the timing and title for its release was impeccable.
Brian’s work in blog design is inspiring, and forward-thinking. He’s one I follow and try to learn from, and whose work I really admire. Whether you want to get more into theming, streamline your current development process for clients, or just run a very clean and usable theme, Revolution is worth a look.

Charity, you are way too kind. :)
More than anything, I am so happy to see the WordPress community being so receptive to the theme. It was fun to build, and even more fun watching the user-base grow.
One thing I’ve learned with my endeavors on the web, is that indeed, to be successful, you need to be a step ahead. We’ll see where this goes!
Aug 18, 07 | 5:45 amWell I don’t think you have to worry about that Brian! Every time you redesign or release a new theme I’m more convinced of it. On the other hand, sometimes I feel I’m a step behind. This blog is young though, and I learn something new with every theme I work on. I just can’t wait to reach the level you’re already operating on. :)

Aug 19, 07 | 6:44 pmBrian’s done a superb job with this one. Much respect, and I can certainly see a lot of blogs following suit with the portal style.
Aug 20, 07 | 1:07 amThis really looks like $60 well spent. My prediction is that in six months, 5-10% of all wordpress sites will be utilizing this theme.
Aug 24, 07 | 10:29 am[...] previously featured on Design Adaptations, Revolution promises to be just that. Though I have not purchased this theme [...]
