Living Design and The New Storefront

Apr 24th, 08 |

Well, there were delays (aren’t there always?) but a good chunk of the new content I previously announced is finally ready! The old Cornerstonetheme.com has gone bye-bye, and a redesigned storefront has taken its place. I’ve been really excited to launch that especially. It was long overdue.

When I built the original Cornerstone, I made the site itself a demo. Then it became obvious that if I wanted to release more themes, it would need a different format to support additional offerings. Problem was, I had no good ideas for the design or how to accommodate multiple product listings in an effective manner. I was also agonizing over whether to bother with a separate site or brand everything under DA.

My to-do list for Press had become a scattered mess as well. In my frustration with the pace of things, I switched focus to a grunge style theme (now temporarily shelved), and from there jumped again to Solidarity. Add to that my intention to release Cornerstone 2.0 after some major polishing… and you have a designer who buried herself with unrealistic expectations.

All the work to be done put me in a state where I didn’t know what to do first, so I didn’t do anything! Then I decided to lose the WordPress madness. I opened up Photoshop one afternoon and just started playing. Sometimes unfettered experimentation is the best way to find a new groove! :)

There’s still much to be done. The storefront is (for now) a “living design”. You may see some big changes in the coming weeks, or just minor details. It will be a fun progression to see what looks (and works) best. Already this particular project has given me ideas for an e-commerce type theme. Oh but I don’t want to get ahead of myself again. ;)

No release dates yet for Press or Solidarity, but it’ll be very soon I promise. My full-time position as MOM presents challenges for getting things done as quickly as I’d like. Feel free to check out the new additions in the meantime though!
