Blogging Noob Tip - Involve Your Readers
May 7th, 07 | 3 remarks
David over at Creative Design really got me thinking the other day with some suggestions he made about improving your blog articles. The most profound of which was #5 - ask questions. I know hemust be right, because one of my most popular posts is titled as a question!
Judging by some of the blogs I read, I think many bloggers miss this fundamental point. I have. Whether or not you’re a good writer is irrelevant if you can’t engage your audience, and there’s no better way to get people involved than by asking a simple question. In essence you’re inviting your readers in, offering them a way to be heard, contribute advice, or maybe just learn by asking questions.
Even if you have regularly commented entries, this tactic is a great way to spark interest among your faithful lurkers as well. Many times I’ve considered leaving a remark on someone’s blog, only to move on without commenting simply because I didn’t feel that my opinion was sought after, or would even be valued. Bad business for a blog, wouldn’t you say? No one wants to feel like they’re being lectured, even if they are visiting specifically to learn something. Asking questions works to counteract the possibility of coming across like a preacher. ;)
On that note, I’ll be making an effort to ask questions more often in my posts. To kick things off… are there any tips you’ve discovered about blogging (which made a noticable difference) in your efforts to improve your own blog?

Firstly, thanks for the kind mention!
Secondly, please accept my apologies for making the URL of the post slightly different from the one you linked to.
I’ve since removed the blog/ directory so the new post address can be followed by clicking on my name above.
Again, thanks and sorry!
David
