Wordpress Quick Search
Feb 26th, 08 |I might be way behind the times on this, but I just discovered two plugins you can use with your browser (or at least in Firefox), which make accessing the Wordpress support forums and Codex a lot quicker!
Over the past few months I’ve found myself repeatedly opening the Codex via bookmark, then performing the search for what I needed from there. It’s an extra step that got old fast, but I didn’t want to change my homepage settings and I knew of no other way. This morning I noticed a plugin showing up in the search drop-down called “Codex (English)”. How did I miss that before? Maybe because there’s no favicon attached or even the word Wordpress?? Or maybe it’s new, I dunno.

Then I remembered an entry I wrote a few months back about creating a search plugin for your own site. That was when I discovered searchplugins.net, which hosts a ton plugins not seen on Mozilla’s search add-ons listing. Too bad it didn’t occur to me at the time to see if there was one for Wordpress… duh! I’m set now though :) and if you use the WP forums or support docs a lot, you might want to grab these real quick.
Get the Codex search by visiting wordpress.org, viewing the drop-down and selecting the engine named above. The Support search can be installed from here. They also have one for Wordpress.com tags. I know the first two for me will be a great time-saver.
