Opportunities in Direct Ad Sales

wp_text_ads150×150.jpgPowering your blog with Wordpress has a multitude of known benefits, and now there’s yet another. You can sell and manage text ads directly on your Wordpress blog, with the WP Text Ads plugin, by Alex Choo.

The plugin offers you the ability to sell ad space on your site with no middle-man to contend with. Nothing against ad brokers, but with WP Text Ads, you set the parameters for advertisers who want to leverage your traffic. That means you pay no commissions. Both free and standard licenses are available for the plugin, and the site has some very good documentation about implementing your ads.

Total control over the pricing, placement, and time-frame for the ad space you deem available on your blog… sounds sweet huh? This tool, used in conjunction with others like WP Ads or Openads - could render you unstoppable! Ok maybe not unstoppable, but you’d have a powerful combo at your fingertips. :)

Anyway however long this plugin lasts, it’s surely worth trying out. I say for however long, because I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets snapped up by an ad brokerage firm, sooner or later.

On a (slightly unrelated) sidenote, I have to say what impresses me most about this plugin is the concept behind it. It’s a great business model and very smart… Alex will be making money by helping others make money. A concept J. Paul Getty was (in-part) famous for. Food for thought.

    This WordPress plugin violates the GNU license terms. The author states that the plugin’s license is “proprietary”, but this is not allowed according to the WordPress GNU license. The author CAN sell the program, but must release full source code w/ the sale, and the purchaser is then to be allowed to modify (or not modify) and distribute the source code without limitation.
